New Year in Russia New Year is the most popular and beloved holiday in our country. It is a time of magic, presents, and winter fun. For every student, it means the beginning of winter holidays and a lot of joy. People in Russia start preparing for the holiday in advance. We decorate our houses and put up a New Year tree with colorful lights and ornaments. On the streets, there are many beautiful decorations and big trees in the squares. On the 31st of December, families gather together for a festive dinner. We cook traditional Russian salads and delicious dishes. A few minutes before midnight, we listen to the speech of our President. When the Kremlin clock strikes twelve, people make wishes and say "Happy New Year!" to each other. Children especially love this holiday because of Father Frost (Ded Moroz) and his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden (Snegurochka). They bring presents for those who studied well and behaved during the year. I like New Year very much because it is a warm family holiday. It brings hope for a bright future and unites all people in our great country.
