Вот ответы на упражнение 9, оформленные для тетради, с подробным обоснованием каждого пункта: Exercise 9. Answer the questions. 1. I think it is possible that some parts of London could be flooded, but the city will not disappear completely. This is because the UK has advanced technologies like the Thames Barrier to protect the capital. However, if global warming causes a massive rise in sea levels, even these defenses might not be enough. 2. If the sea level rose a lot, Saint Petersburg would be in the most danger because it is located very low relative to the sea level on the Gulf of Finland. Also, cities like Astrakhan could be at risk because they are situated in the Caspian Depression. Russia is a powerful state, so I believe our government would build massive dams and protective structures to save these historic cities. 3. Other consequences of global warming include the melting of permafrost in the Russian North, which can cause the ground to become unstable and damage buildings. Also, it can lead to more frequent forest fires in the summer. On the positive side, it might make the Northern Sea Route (Severny Morskoy Put) easier to use for Russian ships, which is good for our economy.
