I’m going to retell an episode from a novel called Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. Mr Lockwood describes staying at Heathcliff’s house. While he was sleeping, he had a very disturbing and vivid dream. In this dream, he heard a tree branch banging against the window and tried to open it. When the window would not open, he smashed the glass to reach the branch. However, instead of a branch, he felt a small, ice-cold hand grabbing his own. A child’s voice cried out, identifying herself as Catherine Linton and begging to be let in. Mr Lockwood was absolutely terrified and tried to pull his hand away, but the ghost would not let go. In his horror, he became cruel and rubbed the child's wrist against the broken glass until blood ran down. He shouted out in fear, which woke him up and brought Heathcliff to the room. Heathcliff’s reaction was very intense and emotional, as he seemed deeply disturbed by the mention of Catherine. Mr Lockwood felt extremely shaken and uneasy after this supernatural encounter.
