Boris Leonidovich Pasternak was a world-famous Russian writer and poet born in Moscow in 1890. He grew up in a creative family, as his father was a talented painter and his mother was a concert pianist. Initially, Boris studied music and philosophy, but later he decided to devote his life to literature. His early poetry collections made him a leading figure in the Russian Silver Age. Pasternak is best known for his epic novel Doctor Zhivago, which describes the tragic events of the Russian Revolution and the Civil War. In 1958, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, though he had to decline it due to the difficult political situation of that time. Despite all the pressure, he remained a true patriot and never left his beloved Motherland. Pasternak was also a brilliant translator who introduced Russian readers to the works of William Shakespeare and Goethe. He died in 1960 in Peredelkino, leaving a great cultural heritage for future generations. Today, his works are studied in every Russian school as masterpieces of national literature.
