The cardiovascular system is the system of blood circulation, comprising the heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries.
The heart, the central organ of circulation, is about the size of two fists and weighs approximately 0.5% of total body weight. It contracts continuously from birth to death.
Heart contractions pump blood through arteries to all body parts. Blood circulates via blood vessels: capillaries, veins, and arteries. Oxygen-poor blood goes to the lungs for oxygenation, becoming oxygen-rich, which is then distributed throughout the body. This cycle repeats.
The heart has four chambers: two atria (left and right) at the top, receiving blood from the body and lungs, and two ventricles (left and right) at the bottom, which pump blood to the body and lungs. Valves regulate blood flow between atria and ventricles, and at the entrance and exit of each ventricle.
Each heartbeat consists of a contraction and a rest period, forming a cardiac cycle.
The vascular system includes arteries, veins, and capillaries. The systemic vessels carry blood to and from the body's tissues. The pulmonary system handles blood transport to and from the lungs. The portal system involves veins leading to the liver.

Подробное решение
Ниже представлены выполненные упражнения, оформленные для удобного переписывания в тетрадь.
3. Complete the sentences using the text "The Cardiovascular System".
1. The cardiovascular system is the system of blood circulation, comprising the heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries.
2. The centre of the cardiovascular system is the heart.
3. The contractions of the heart pump blood through arteries to all body parts.
4. Two chambers on the top are called atria (left and right).
5. Two chambers on the bottom are ventricles (left and right).
6. The valves separate atria and ventricles and regulate blood flow at the entrance and exit of each ventricle.
4. Match two parts of the sentences together.
1. Blood flows through the body — using the blood vessels.
2. The oxygen-poor blood goes to the lungs — where it becomes oxygen-rich.
3. The atria receive the blood — from the body and lungs.
4. The ventricles give the blood — to the body and lungs.
5. Each beat of the heart is followed by — a period of rest.
6. The heart consists of — four chambers.
7. The cardiovascular system includes — the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries.
5. Answer the questions.
1. What groups of vessels does the vascular system consist of?
The vascular system consists of arteries, veins, and capillaries.
2. What vessels compose the general system?
The systemic (general) vessels carry blood to and from the body's tissues.
3. What vessels form the pulmonary system?
The pulmonary system is formed by vessels that transport blood to and from the lungs.
4. What vessels form the portal system?
The portal system is formed by veins leading to the liver.
